The previous information on alcohol does not give attention to personal consequences. In Kershaw County, where the main office of ALPHA Behavioral Health Center is located, there is a coalition of community people that meet regularly to seek to reduce DUI deaths and injuries in our area. The group is called CAST, Community Action for a Safer Tomorrow, which is a project that is grant-funded due to the high number of deaths in Kershaw County when compared to the rest of the state. As stated earlier, those under age 21 that get caught are the lucky ones, but this also applies to a person of any age who gets charged with DUI because of what could have happened if the driver would have been allowed to continue driving in an impaired state. One of CAST coalition’s most passionate members has a story that will hopefully help you understand what all these facts and numbers mean when the rubber meets the road:
